DESCRIPTION
The Cayenne pepper plant produces long, slender, tapering peppers that ripen to a stunning bright red. They have moderate to high heat, ranging between 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville Heat Units. With a slightly fruity and earthy undertone, Cayenne peppers are perfect used fresh, dried, or ground into powder. A very attractive plant that looks beautiful when grown in pots.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Chilli seeds need consistent heat before, during, and after germination, ideally 21°C to 29°C. Use seed sowing compost and sow about 0.5cm deep. Germination can take up to three weeks. A good place to germinate seeds if you don’t have a heated propagator is an airing cupboard, just be sure to remove them as soon as they sprout, as they then need light while staying warm. Be patient and gentle when growing chillies, as they dislike temperature fluctuations. Transplant gradually into larger pots. When the weather is consistently warm, move plants outside to the warmest spot available. They prefer well-drained, fertile soil with slightly acidic pH. Harvest when chillies are deep red, using scissors or pruning shears to avoid damaging the plant.
