DESCRIPTION
A popular and reliable variety that's quite hardy and able to withstand early winter temperatures. This white cauliflower forms large, solid heads (sometimes up to 30cm across) with contrasting deep green leaves. It's full of nutrition; rich in iron, manganese, and antioxidants. Nothing beats a home-grown cauliflower!
HOW TO GROW
Spring Sowing: Sow direct between March and May.
Autumn Sowing: Sow in October and overwinter for an early summer harvest.
Prepare the soil by raking in an all-purpose fertiliser (e.g. Vitax Q4). Transplant when seedlings are around 15cm tall (approx. 6 weeks). Cauliflowers are delicate so handle gently and water well before and after transplanting. Fill the planting hole with water multiple times to thoroughly moisten the area, then firm the soil around the seedling.
Spacing: 45cm between plants, 60cm between rows.
Tip: Sow a few seeds every few weeks for a continuous harvest.
Cauliflowers are prone to pests so protect with insect-proof mesh. Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging.
HANDY HINTS
Improve soil in early spring by incorporating well-rotted manure (ideally the year before).
Apply lime to acidic soil to reduce acidity and lessen the risk of clubroot.
Gradually acclimatise indoor-sown plants to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days.
Plant in full sun in firm, rich, fertile, well-drained soil.
Water thoroughly after planting.
Cover with netting or fleece to deter birds and insects.
